Leyte – is the birthplace of skim boarding Hundreds of people each year brave the scorching heat of the summer sun to watch an annual water sports event from the long, sandy beach of Tahusan, Leyte, at the Running Man Resort and the numbers are growing.

Many of the participants came from the towns of Tanauan, Tolosa, Sta. Fe and Dulag, and the cities of Tacloban, Ormoc and Maasin, all in Leyte; and from Cebu, Surigao Del Sur, Naga City, Davao City and Lapulapu City.

Tanauan, was the scene of the official kick off of the usual three-day National Skim boarding Competition which was kicked off at the Bantay Dagat beach area, a couple of years ago drawing 120 participants who displayed their skills in a sport that originated abroad.

Many more skimmers wanted to join but the organizers had decided to limit the number on the suggestion of the Philippine Skim boarding Association, Tanauan Mayor Roque Tiu said.
Cool game, cool place.

“The game is a refreshing change … the Running Man beach is excellent for it and there are many talented people,” Kotto said. A few years back Kotto sponsored the Tahusan festival and he regretted he did not include Skim boarding as part of the competitions.
He wants to be certain that women are included as they were for the first time ay the Tanauan competition when a “Babae” (female) division and a grommet division for the young.

Kayaking and some rafting are available in the wet season in the interiors of Luzon and Mindanao.

White water rafting and kayaking are the newest action sports in the Philippines. For decades, while adventure-hungry travelers flocked to the rivers of Nepal and Borneo, the superb rapids of the Philippines lay undiscovered. But that's changing fast: white water action is now available on half a dozen rivers in the Visayas and Mindanao, and more are being explored.
